Felix Guzman, is a poet and community organizer based out of Brooklyn, New York. Taking care to build a healthy community for all, Felix has been appointed to the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene Consumer Advisory Board, and New York City’s City Council Commission on Community Reinvestment and the Closure of Rikers Island.
Writing for redemption and restoration, Felix has been published in Voices of Fortune twice and has two poems featured on the 4Tune Society Success Stories album by the Fortune Society. He has performed poetry at venues, press conferences/rallies, open mics and award ceremonies including the steps of City Hall, Carnegie Hall, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Staten Island Fatherhood Awards, and more. His periodical writing has appeared in the NY Daily News as an opinion editorial on the issues of homelessness; and in City Voices Newspaper on the issue of removing law enforcement from encounters with persons experiencing emotional crisis.
With a chapbook “Savage Garden, Concrete Jungle” and same-titled audiobook, and a full-length poetry collection entitled You Hold Space, You Have Value, You are Loved! on the way, Felix is looking to promote the narrative that redemption is always possible. Hoping to be able to incorporate his lived experience into providing recovery-oriented instruction in therapeutic practice, Felix is working towards becoming a poetry therapist in the future.
